China Again

Nii Hao!

I have been getting out and about in Xi'an (She-on)  this week.
I liked seeing some sights so different from home.

This type of building is common here. It is tall tower, with many roof lines going up the sides. It is called a pagoda.  Pagodas are religious buildings, like our churches. There are lots of pagodas here.
This one is named the Big Wild Goose pagoda.

As we walked around the city, we saw lots of people using the space outdoors. These people were eating a restaurant meal at a table in the street. Have you been to a restaurant in Rock Hill where you can choose to sit outside?

Eating noodles with chopsticks.

These men were playing a game on the sidewalk outside the store where they worked. we watched for awhile. It was hard to understand. It looked a lot like checkers, and they moved the pieces in the same ways, but there were no marks on the board, and no different colors. People everywhere enjoy playing games.

We saw people selling vegetables in the street. Different plants and foods grow in different parts of the world! This is one that I had never seen before. It is called lotus root. I think it has a pretty design of holes when it is sliced open.

These all looked familiar. Can you name the veggies you see on the cart?

We went to a supermarket to get some snacks to keep in the hotel room. Look at what we found.
The writing on the packages might be different, but we know what is inside!

They have a mall in Xi'an! A kid's carnival with rides was set up outside, but it was early in the morning, so it hadn't opened yet. A lot of the stores at the mall are the same. They have signs in Chinese, and in English too.  Can you recognize the two signs? They are partly hidden behind the rides.

Here is one last picture for you. It was taken at night. It shows the entrance to the city, all lit up.
Long ago, cities (here in China, and in Europe, and other places) built big, high walls around the edges. In the daytime, the doors would be open, with guards to let people in and out. At night, the doors would be closed for safety and protection.

I hope that you liked sharing my adventures in China. Soon I will be coming back home.

I'll see you at school!
Your friend,
Flat Stanley
