Hi First Graders,
Here I am in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. I said hello to you in Spanish because that is the official language here. Near our hotel there is an American sandwich shop. Do you recognize it?
| What does the sign in the window say? |
On Sunday I went out for a day of exploring with Dr. Kristie. We didn't eat at Subway, though. We had tamales in a local restaurant. They were yummy.
| They are cooked in leaves. You have to unwrap them before you eat them. |

Next we went to walk in a park. They had the coolest play structure for toy cars. Kids could climb up to the top and send their cars down to the sandbox through a tunnel, or on an open track
I posed with some statues of people from older times. Why do you suppose that there is a donkey statue?
The donkey was a very important animal here before people had cars, trucks, and other machines to help them do work. These statues look different from any that we see in the USA, because here statues usually aren't painted.
Walking back from the park, we saw this lady pedaling a bike down the street. It was kind of like the ice cream truck that might come to your neighborhood, except instead of ice cream, she stopped to sell fresh fruit!
Look at the treat that we bought. It is mango slices to go! Very sweet and juicy!
That's all for today.
Our weekend outing was fun. I will write one more time before I come home next weekend.
Your friend,
Flat Stanley
